Space Institute Serves ‘Spice’
The UT Space Institute held its Annual Service Awards Luncheon on May 8, 2018, to recognize faculty and staff as they reach milestones in their employment. Executive Director Mark Whorton presented the awards and expressed his sincere appreciation to everyone attending.
“UTSI has a strong plan in place and we all play an important role in executing that plan,” said Wharton. “The different talents of our staff and faculty put the ‘spice’ in UTSI.”
The Reviews Are in From Faculty Members
Elsevier and Acta Materialia have announced the recipients of the 2018 Outstanding Reviewer Awards for excellence in reviewing in 2017. Recipients this year include Takeshi Egami and Yanfei Gao, professors in materials science and engineering; Steve Zinkle, professor in nuclear engineering; and Suresh Babu, professor in mechanical, aerospace, and biomedical engineering.
Acta Materialia is a pivotal journal in materials science and engineering, an area in which all of these faculty members contribute.
King Recognized for Her Leadership
Julie King, a graduate research assistant at UTSI, received the 2018 Mechanical, Aerospace, & Biomedical Engineering Student Leadership Award.
This honor recognizes students who have demonstrated significant leadership during their time at UT. King was nominated by her advisor, Associate Professor Jackie Johnson.
King is currently working on her PhD in biomedical engineering.
Project to Publication: MABE Class Makes Carbon
Results from a research project designed by graduate students in Assistant Professor Seungha Shin’s Nano-Scale Thermal Transport class (ME599) will be published in Carbon, a journal with an impact factor higher than 6.49.
