Welcome transfer students! We are glad you are interested in the Tickle College of Engineering.
Engineering Transfer Policy for External and Internal Students
Transfer Students beginning Fall 2010 and forward
Transfer students, including internal University of Tennessee, Knoxville, transfers, must meet the minimum requirements stated below to be considered for admission to a major within the college. These minimum standards for consideration do not guarantee being admitted to the major. The final admission decision for the major resides with the department head or designee.
- Must have earned a minimum 2.8 cumulative average and a C or better in each of these specific courses, or their equivalent: English 101 , Chemistry 120 (for Computer Science students: Computer Science 102 and 140 or equivalents), and Math 141 (and subsequent courses in the three sequences, if taken). If the student has completed any Physics course, they must have earned a grade of C or better.
- The overall record will be evaluated for quality and seriousness of purpose. An excessive number of withdrawals, incompletes, repeated courses, or failures may result in denial.
If external transfer students are denied admission to the Tickle College of Engineering, the student must contact Undergraduate Admissions to declare a new major for admission to UT.
External Transfer Students from other community colleges or universities
Students transferring to the Tickle College of Engineering should apply for admission using the online application.
As part of the admissions process, you will submit your transcripts for evaluation. Once the evaluation is complete, you will receive a copy of how your classes transfer to UT.
The Engineering curriculums can be found in the current UT catalog. Transfer students will want to compare their course evaluation provided as part of the admissions process with the current curriculum to see what requirements have been met.
The Registrar’s Office provides course transfer equivalency tables for Tennessee community colleges and 4 year schools. This allows you to determine how courses you are currently taking at other Tennessee schools compare to UT classes.
Tennessee Transfer Pathways
Transfer orientation is provided several times each year at UT. The Engineering Advising Office encourages transfer students to schedule an individual transfer advising appointment prior to attending the Transfer Orientation provided by UT. This will allow you as a transfer student to have individual time to discuss your academic plans.
