Alumni & Friends

The University of Tennessee Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering values the backing of our loyal alumni and friends and encourages campus visits and participation in college and university activities.

Here are some examples of who our CBE alumni are, where they are, and what they are doing:

Martin, Oscar (MS '96)
Oscar Martin completed his PhD in chemical and life science engineering at Virginia Commonwealth University. He is currently the Sales & Operations Planning Manager for DuPont in Richmond, Virginia. (posted 1/10)

Melosh, Michael (BS/ChE '94)
Michael Melosh graduated from the University of Phoenix in November of 2006 with a Master of Arts in Education. He is now a fully licensed teacher in the state of Colorado. As of November 2008, Michael teaches physics and mathematics at the Florence Crittenton School in Denver, CO. (posted 12/07; updated 10/09)

Bouffard, Leif (BS/ChE '73)
Leif Bouffard was named Engineer of the Year by the Central Florida Section of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers at the 32nd Annual Technical Conference in Clearwater, FL, June 2008. Mr. Bouffard is currently with Mosaic Fertilizer LLC as Energy and Strategy Engineering Supervisor. (posted 8/08)

Bivens, Donald B. (BS/ChE '62)
Donald B. Bivens (bivco@comcast.net) graduated from UT in 1962 with a BS in chemical engineering. He received his MS degree in chemical engineering from Georgia Tech in 1963 and his chemical engineering PhD in 1966; he joined DuPont Company in that same year. Now retired as senior technology fellow from DuPont Fluoroproducts, Wilmington, Delaware, he is an independent refrigerant applications consultant, in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. On June 26, 2010, Donald received a Distinguished Service Award from the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) at the Society’s 2010 Annual Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Distinguished Service Award salutes members of any grade for giving freely of their time and talent on behalf of the Society. The honor recognizes participation in chapter, regional and Society activities. (posted 12/07; updated 4/11)

Jenkins, Leonard (BS/ChE '89)
Leonard Jenkins is currently Director of Technical Guidance Research for Coca Cola North America's Innovation Organization. He has received International patents for Improved Beverage Microbial Stability (P&G '96) and for Improved PET Barrier Performance (TCCC '07). Leonard resides in Atlanta, Georgia. (posted 12/07)

Lawrence, Bill ('98)
Bill Lawrence (blawrence@mmm.com) of 3M Corporation tranferred to the Decatur, AL, facilities. He will be working with polyester coextrusion technology making multi-layer optical films. (posted 12/07)
