Finite Element Modeling for Stress Analysis by Cook, latest edition, publisher J. Wiley
Course Objective
The objectives of this course are to learn the finite element method for the solution of geotehcnnical problems, and to develop an appreciation for the advantages and limitations of the method. The student should develop the ability to properly model a soil-structure system, and critically review and interpret the FE results.Topics
Each student will prepare a term project/paper. The term paper/project will utilize a numberical solution to a practical problem. The report should include a comparison of the numerical results from a simplified problem for which a simple or hand solution is available or has been included.Professional Component
