Environmental Restoration

Environmental Restoration is essentially the assessment and cleanup of sites previously contaminated with hazardous materals. Waste management strategies for environmental restoration require an adequatre understanding of such factors as (1) media type (soil, sediments, ground or surface water), 2) key characteristics of contaminants present (type, concentration, extent, transport properties and ultimate fate) and 3) available treatment technologies including ex-situ options that rely on physcial removal and treatment of contaminated media and in-situ treatment processes that reduce pollutant concentrations through physcial, chemical or biological means.

Minimum course requirements for the environmental restoration option include:
ENVR 551 Physicochemical Unit Processes
ENVR 552 Biological Treatment Theory
ENVR 535 Ground Water Hydrology
ENVR 554 Environmental Engineering Chemistry
