Geotechnology and Infrastructure Materials Laboratory
(GIML)
University of Tennessee
Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering
The mission of the GIML is to support the teaching, research, and service functions of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
This Laboratory supports the Geotechnical and Materials Engineering emphasis within the Civil Engineering curriculum. This area of study includes principles of soil mechanics, design of foundations, shear strength in soils, slope stability analysis, soil-structure interactions, and materials of construction. Many of the course offerings emphasize the importance of laboratory testing to the understanding of soil and construction materials behavior by giving students "hands on" experience.
