Undergraduate Educational Goals
Undergraduate Education Goal
Provide a high quality undergraduate teaching and learning environment in recognized areas of civil engineering with proficiency in environmental, geotechnical, structural, transportation and water resources engineering in order to prepare students to enter the general practice of civil engineering and/or pursue graduate education.
Undergraduate Educational Objectives
Consistent with the mission of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at The University of Tennessee, graduates of the program will have:
- Technical competency to conduct engineering projects and to advance with increasing responsibility.
- Professional competency to continually increase engineering proficiency, proceed on a track to attain professional licensure, and contribute to the profession and community.
Undergraduate Educational Outcomes
- Develop an ability to identify, analyze, and solve engineering problems by applying knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering, and using techniques and engineering tools that are commonly utilized in civil engineering practice. ABET criteria (a), (e), and (k).
- Develop an ability to conduct experiments as well as analyze and interpret data. ABET criterion (b)
- Develop an ability to design civil engineering systems, components, or processes to meet desired needs. ABET criterion (c)
- Develop an ability to participate in the work of a design team of a diverse group of members solving real-life problems. ABET criterion (d)
- Develop an understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities along with the recognition of the need for life-long learning through continuing education. ABET criteria (f) and (i)
- Develop an ability to communicate orally and in writing in an effective manner. ABET criterion (g)
- Develop the knowledge of contemporary issues pertinent to civil engineering for understanding the impact of civil engineering projects on the society and environment at both local and global levels. ABET criteria (h) and (j)
