Associate Professor, Department of Industrial & Information Engineering

Associate Professor -Industrial and Information Engineering-Pay Grade 62, - Salary Range $68,000-$72,000 - Full Time

The Department of Industrial and Information Engineering at The University of Tennessee invites nominations and applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level or a tenured position at the Associate Professor level. The department, one of the seven academic departments of the College of Engineering, grants B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees, has eight tenured-track faculty and lab affiliates, and serves a total enrollment of about 150, including both undergraduate and graduate students.

The college is one of the oldest in the U.S. and also one of the fastest growing in the country. It enjoys particularly strong educational and research relationships with Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The department is located on the main campus in Knoxville, a rapidly growing city situated on an international of attractions, activities, and amenities to both visitors and locals. The position is expected to be filled as early as March 2011. If a successful candidate is not selected by this date, applications will continue to be received until the position in filled.

Areas of departmental interest for this position include systems engineering, engineering management and entrepreneurship, with orientation toward engineering processes, production systems integration, reliability, scholastic processes, optimization, enterprise systems, supply chain and cross-functional information system design. Demonstrated strength in related areas, such as operations research, statistics, production statistics, and information/computer science is desirable,

A PhD is required with at least one degree in industrial engineering or a related area. An undergraduate degree in industrial engineering or a related area is preferred. Teaching experience in Industrial Engineering or a related area is preferred. Effective oral and written communication skills are essential. Successful applicants are expected to: Develop a research program by obtaining and maintaining external funding; conduct innovative research and publish results in outstanding referred journals; excel in undergraduate, graduate and distance learning teaching environments; and advise students and provide graduate research supervision.
