Mechanical, Aerospace and Biomedical Engineering Tenure-Track Faculty Position
The University of Tennessee, Knoxville

The Department of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Biomedical Engineering (MABE) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) invites applicants for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the areas listed below. Candidates applying for this position are expected to have a strong commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels, demonstrated research capabilities that will enable the development of externally funded research programs, publications in leading scholarly journals, a Ph.D. in a related field of engineering; and, a strong background in fundamental aerospace topics. Successful candidates should value collaboration with colleagues, development of new multidisciplinary research initiatives, and participation in ongoing research projects. Applicants should have a demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of equal employment opportunity and affirmative action. Primary consideration will be given to those with research and teaching interests in the following areas:

Aerospace Engineering: aerodynamics, aircraft performance, propulsion, design.

Research interests and experience that include the integration of nanotechnology concepts into any of these areas are highly desirable.

The department currently has 24 faculty members and enrolls some 700 undergraduate and 110 graduate students. Research expenditures are currently $4.0M per year. Extensive opportunities for collaborative research exist at UTK, Oak Ridge National Laboratory (in nearby Oak Ridge, TN located 25 miles from campus), the University of Tennessee Space Institute (UTSI) and the Air Force’s Arnold Engineering Development Center (AEDC) (both in Tullahoma, TN located 175 miles from campus).
