Budget Director - University of Tennessee Space Institute
The University of Tennessee Space Institute (UTSI) in Tullahoma, TN, invites applications for a full-time Budget Director. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Budget Director is responsible for management of all aspects of the fiscal operations of this academic and comprehensive research institution.
Primary duties and responsibilities include: preparation and coordination of annual base budgets from the state, including collection of tuition and other revenues and allocation of departmental budgets for instruction, research, and income accounts; oversight for pre and post award activities related to externally funded research grants and contracts; general ledger accounting; approvals of all financial transactions, including travel, procurement, payroll, and human resources; and supervision of designated departmental support staff. Financial oversight extends also to auxiliary services including student housing, dining hall, and motor pool.
The Budget Director will also be involved in financial analyses and preparation of various reports for purposes of strategic planning and program accreditation. In addition, the Budget Director must ensure responsible and appropriate fiscal management of the Institute’s resources, which provides the Executive Director (1) opportunities for sound strategic planning; (2) assurance of compliance with federal, state, and university statutes and policies; and (3) fiscal and administrative integrity that promotes meaningful relationships with both internal and external constituencies. Annual salary will be commensurate with experience and will range from $60,000 to $68,500. Additional information regarding UTSI may be viewed at http://www.utsi.edu/.
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related area
- Excellent leadership, administrative, and problem-solving skills
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases and accounting software
- Several years hands-on experience in accounting/finance
- Several years work experience related to fiscal pre and post award management of federal, state, and private research grants and contracts expenditures/strong>
- Experience in a supervisory role
Preference will be given to individuals with prior financial work experience at a comprehensive research university, demonstrated direct supervisory oversight, and a working knowledge of SAP software.
