Future Transfer Students
The College of Engineering welcomes transfer students, and recognizes the importance of ensuring the transfer process be as straightforward as possible. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions and the Office of the University Registrar websites are designed to provide transfer students with guidelines and contact information for specific inquiries.
The Transfer Process
Students wishing to transfer to the University of Tennessee's College of Engineering in the fall must complete and submit their applications by June 1. The appropriate engineering department will then perform a preliminary evaluation of the student's transcript and GPA. After the student is admitted, his or her transfer credits will be evaluated and a copy of the evaluation mailed to the student.
Course transfer may be accepted from any two- or four-year accredited college or university in the United States. If a student takes a course at another accredited institution equivalent to one offered at UT and earns a grade of "C" or better, those credits may count towards a UT bachelor's degree. Students from non-U.S. colleges or universities should consult the Office of the University Registrar for transfer eligibility.
General Education Requirements
UT-Knoxville students must complete specified general education courses as part of the curriculum to earn a bachelor's degree. Transfer students are encouraged to consult with an advisor at their home institution early in their academic planning before choosing general education courses. The choice of general education courses depends on the intended major at UT. For additional information, students may check the specific departmental web site and the Registrar's Office web site.
Articulation Agreements
Articulation agreements are programs arranged with nearby two-year colleges that allow students to follow a restricted curriculum leading to an associate degree while preparing them for the corresponding baccalaureate degree at UT-Knoxville.
Students fulfilling the articulation requirements will be admitted with junior standing in their chosen bachelor's degree program at UT-Knoxville. Participating community colleges are listed on the Undergraduate Admissions web site.
Scholarships and Financial Aid
To be considered for general, university, and academic college scholarships, transfer students must complete and return the Returning and Transfer Student Undergraduate Scholarship Application by April 1.
A number of UT scholarships are available specifically for transfer students who have earned an associate degree from an accredited institution.
In-state students may also apply for Tennessee Educational Lottery Scholarships (TELS), including the HOPE scholarship, while enrolled in two-year transfer programs at eligible Tennessee institutions.
If TELS students transfer in the middle of the school year, they may transfer TELS scholarships to UT if all eligibility requirements continue to be met. For additional information, visit the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation or the UT Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships web sites.
