Giving
The College of Engineering has experienced unprecedented opportunities and exciting new challenges during the last few years.
In July 2004, Dr. Min H. Kao, a UT alumnus and CEO of Garmin Ltd. provided the college with a transformational gift of $17.5 million, $12.5 which was designated toward the construction of a new electrical and computer engineering building, and an additional $5 million slated for a dollar-for-dollar fund-raising campaign to generate a $10 million endowment for the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. This challenge campaign has currently raised over $4.5 million.
The college is also actively preparing to build a new building that wlil house the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Although the state has provided significant funding, private dollars must be raised to assist with the completion of the construction and the furnishing of classrooms, laboratories and offices. Between now and early 2009, there is an immediate need for $3 million in commitments.
The College of Engineering is part of "The Campaign for Tennessee," which officially launched April 17, 2008. Our initial goal is $75 million with priorities to support faculty endowments and chairs, graduate fellowships and undergraduate scholarships, and buildings. As of May 30, 2008, $38 million (51%) has been committed.
