Message from the Department Head ~ Welcome!
I am pleased that you are having a look at the University of Tennessee and the Mechanical, Aerospace, and Biomedical Engineering Department. The acronym we use when referring to our name is simply speaking each letter in sequence … MABE. The roots of MABE go back to the initial mechanical engineering program created around 1900. Today, the department is one of the largest in the College of Engineering and offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in four distinct programs: mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, biomedical engineering, and engineering science. BS, MS, and PhD degrees are granted all of these areas except for Engineering Science, which is only a graduate program.
Engineering education is most effective when connected with active research. MABE faculty and students are involved in a wide range of important and exciting research activities ranging from biomechanics to robotics to automotive engine emissions to microfluidics…just to name a few. Faculty work closely with their students and we seek to involve motivated undergraduate students in our research as soon as possible. MABE is a great place to learn in a challenging and hands-on environment.
