The United States Department of Energy and the U.S. Council for Automotive Research have extended an invitation to The University of Tennessee to participate in the 1999 FutureCar Challenge. Our mission will be to redesign a 1997 Dodge Intrepid to achieve at least twice the current fuel economy and to reduce emissions to ULEV levels without suffering negative repercussions in performance or cost.

As the 1999 UTK FutureCar team, we have proposed to do something never before attempted for FutureCar competition, which is to enter a Dual Hybrid Electric Vehicle. We have set very high goals but have reliable team members with initiative and a desire to compete to not only make this proposal work, but to win the FutureCar competition this June!
