Maintenance & Reliability Engineering Students

The University of Tennessee College of Engineering offers several options to undergraduate engineering students (and prospective employers) in the area of reliability and maintainability engineering. UT is unique in the U.S. in offering the quality and quantity of education and experience to interested undergraduate students. All options are an integral part of a normal B.S. curriculum in one of the engineering disciplines and include:

Minor in Reliability and Maintainability Engineering (University Recognition)

Maintenance and Reliability Engineering Certificate (College Recognition)

Maintenance and Reliability Engineering Internships

Minor in Reliability and Maintainability Engineering

The Minor in RME requires five (5) elective courses in the area of reliability and maintenance and must be achieved within the framework of a B.S. Degree. An example would be a “BS in Mechanical Engineering with a Minor in Reliability and Maintainability Engineering”. The Minor is considered a university recognition and appears on the official student transcript. Click here for more information about the Minor option.

Maintenance and Reliability Engineering Certificate

The MRE Certificate requires a combination of successfully completing two specified elective courses with a 3.0 grade and completing two MRC internships (13 weeks including the one-week overview training course). The two courses are senior level courses and are eligible as “technical electives” in all engineering departments. The internships are described below. Click here for more information about the MRE Certificate.

Maintenance and Reliability Engineering Internships

MRC Internships provide engineering students a unique experience in the world of today’s technically advanced maintenance and reliability fields. MRC interns are placed with MRC member companies who are leaders in the development of best practices and advanced technologies. The internship starts with a one-week overview training course taught by UT faculty and industry experts. The student then spends 12 weeks on the job with the member company, completing the 13 week (or 3 month) internship. This is a great opportunity for students and prospective employers to evaluate each other. Click here for more information about MRC Internships.
