TEST METHODS FOR NONWOVENS

M. G. Kamath, Atul Dahiya, Raghavendra R. Hegde

1. INTRODUCTION

Standard test methods for nonwovens are provided by ASTM under the fixed designation D 1117. When the sample is taken at random from the number of rolls available at the site it is known as Lot Sample. A piece of fabric from the lot sample, extending the width of the fabric and approximately 1meter (~1 yard) along the machine direction is known as Laboratory Sample. In general, these samples are conditioned before testing according to ASTM D1776. This is to bring them to approximate moisture and temperature equilibrium in the standard laboratory conditions of 65  2 % RH (relative humidity) and 21  1°C temperature before the tests are performed on them.
