Job Fair

Wednesday, September 30th; 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.; Thompson Boling Arena

Sponsored by UT Career Services

Career Services has 140+ companies pre-registered for the Fall Job Fair (all majors—full-time/internships) and almost ½ are looking for ENGINEERING MAJORS!

Click this link to view CURRENT LIST OF COMPANIES BY MAJOR INTEREST

Also check out the Career Services Job Fair Newsletter!

For a full list with daily updates, sign into your HIRE-A-VOL account and view the 2009 Fall Job Fair link. Many of these companies will begin reviewing resumes prior to the event via HIRE-A-VOL – be sure that you have had your resume reviewed at Career Services and that you have completed your profile and uploaded your resume to your HIRE-A-VOL account ASAP. Then plan on checking for new jobs each week, submitting your resume to posted jobs for interview consideration throughout the Fall semester and have plenty of professional resumes ready to pass out at the Job Fair.

Job Fair IITOP TEN THINGS TO DO BEFORE THE JOB FAIR

  1. 1. Check your professional attire: suit, shoes, jewelry. Do you need to clean it, mend it, polish it or buy it?
  2. 2. Use the Job Fair Preparation Resources at http://career.utk.edu/engineering/jobsearch.php.
  3. 3. Plan your schedule: Can you spend all day or just 2 hours?
  4. 4. Pick your “A”, “B” and “C” list companies using the HIRE-A-VOL list to research and prepare for in order to make a strong impression. Who are your top “A” companies/jobs?
  5. 5. Update/finish your resume: have it critiqued by at least 3 people including a Career Services professional (resume critique walk-in hours at Career Services – Monday – Thursday, 3 – 5 p.m.). Print out on resume paper at least double the number you think you will need and carry them in a professional portfolio with a memo pad for notes and at least 2 working pens.
  6. RSVP through the 2009 Fall Job Fair Link on HIRE-A-VOL to all companies that you are interested in—even the ones that are not top on your list—you never know!
  7. Practice your “30-second” commercial and tweak it for each of the “A” companies. Then be prepared to use it as needed for the “B” and “C” companies.
  8. Know your schedule for the 2 days after the Job Fair: many companies will be doing interviews on campus and will schedule you at their booths during the Job Fair.
  9. Practice your firm handshake and confident body language.
  10. Get plenty of sleep and remember, everyone is nervous, but being prepared and practicing will help you win that interview!
