COE Holds Commencement Ceremony on May 9, 2008
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The University of Tennessee College of Engineering held its spring commencement ceremony on Friday, May 9, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. in the Knoxville Convention Center. COE Dean Way Kuo presided over the ceremony, which recognized the college's 2008 graduates.

Joseph C. Cook Jr., an alumnus of the COE and the Founder and Principal of Mountain Group Capital, LLC, was the speaker for the event. Cook is past Chair of the COE Board of Advisors, where he has served as a member for over 20 years. He was a chief executive with Eli Lilly and Company pharmaceuticals and Amylin Pharmaceuticals prior to his retirement in 2003, when he left Amylin to form Mountain Group Capital, a company that is focused on acquiring controlling interests in manufacturing and value added distribution companies primarily located in the southeast.
Top graduates of the college for 2008 included Soumyo Dutta, mechanical engineering; Cole Andrew Gentry, nuclear engineering; Lucas Lee Groves, biomedical engineering; and Rachel Louise Lenhart, biomedical engineering.
The COE Commencement Ceremony recognizes the undergraduate candidates for engineering degrees in a separate ceremony in addition to the university-wide commencement.
