Garcia Named New Associate Dean for Academic Affairs

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The University of Tennessee College of Engineering (COE) has named Dr. Alberto Garcia, currently a professor and Director of Undergraduate Programs for the Department of Industrial Engineering at Texas A & M University, as the college's new Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.

Garcia received his B.S. degree in industrial engineering from the Industrial University of Santander, Colombia, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in industrial engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

He was given the Association of Former Students of Texas A & M University's Distinguished Achievement Award for Teaching, College of Engineering in 2003, and is a Fellow of the Institute of Industrial Engineers and a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas.

Garcia is the author of four books, including Facilities Planning and Design, which will be published this year, as well as numerous journal, proceedings and technical articles and reports. Garcia has also been appointed as a full professor in the college's Department of Industrial and Information Engineering.
