UT College of Engineering Announces New Administrative Appointments

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Dr. J. Wesley Hines, professor in the Department of Nuclear Engineering, has been named Interim Associate Dean for Research and Technology for the University of Tennessee College of Engineering. He will be replacing Dr. Wayne Davis, who previously held the position and who was designated to be the COE's interim dean beginning May 11th, 2008.
Hines received his B.S. in electrical engineering from Ohio University, Athens, in 1985; his M.S. degree in nuclear engineering and an M.B.A. degree from The Ohio State University in 1992; and his Ph.D. in nuclear engineering from The Ohio State University in 1994. Hines also attended the Naval Nuclear Power School in Orlando, Fla., in 1986 and worked as a U.S. Naval Officer on Naval nuclear submarines from 1987-1990.
Hines started his career at UT in the nuclear engineering department in 1995 as a research assistant professor. In 2005, Hines was promoted to professor in the nuclear engineering department.
Hines has received numerous recognitions from the COE, including the 2006 College of Engineering Research Fellow Award; the 2005 Brooks Distinguished Professor Award; the 2004 COE Teaching Fellow Award; the 2004 Leon and Nancy Cole Superior Teaching Award; and the 2001-2002 Allen and Hoshall Engineering Faculty Award.
Additional awards that Hines has received include the 2005 American Society of Engineering Education, Southeastern Section, Thomas C. Evans Instructional Paper Award; 2004 Outstanding Contribution Award, for outstanding contributions to the field of Fuzzy Logic and Intelligent Technologies in Nuclear Science (FLINS), Blankenberge, Belgium; and the 2004 American Society for Engineering Education, Southeastern Section Outstanding Mid-Career Teaching Award.

The COE has also named Dr. Bruce Robinson, an emeritus professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, as Interim Head of the Department of Industrial and Information Engineering. Robinson's last appointment was as the Armour T. Granger Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He was also the coordinator of the environmental engineering program.
He received his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in sanitary engineering from Iowa State University. His doctoral dissertation won the 1980 Nalco Award for Significant Chemical Research in Water and Wastewater Treatment presented in conjunction with the Association of Environmental Engineering Professors.
Robinson previously worked for the Iowa Departmental of Environmental Quality, the Iowa Department of Transportation, and Iowa State University and has also worked as a consultant for several industries. Robinson is a co-holder of two patents and a technology licensing agreement.
He has served as chair and member of several national professional society committees including the ASCE Water Supply Committee and AWWA's Small Systems Research Committee.
Robinson has worked with or performed research for several agencies and firms including Saturn Corporation, Martin-Marietta Energy Systems, Bechtel Environmental, FMC Corporation, Tennessee Eastman Corp., IT Corporation, City of Clinton Utilities, Spring City Dye and Finish, Value Line Textiles, General Filter Corporation, TN Department of Transportation, TN Department of Environment and Conservation, American Water Works Association Research Foundation, USEPA, Aqua-Dynamics, Knoxville Utilities Board, Ball Zinc Corporation, the State of New Jersey, U.S. Department of Energy, Zurn Corporation, the Water Environment Research Foundation and the National Park Service.
Robinson is a registered professional engineer in Tennessee and Iowa.
