College of Engineering Announces New Chemical Engineering Head

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Dr. Bamin Khomami has been named the Armour T. Grainger and Alvin & Sally Beaman Professor and Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Tennessee's College of Engineering. Khomami was previously the Francis F. Ahmann Professor of Chemical Engineering at Washington University (WU) in St. Louis.

Khomami joined the faculty at WU in St. Louis in 1987 as an assistant professor of chemical engineering after obtaining his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Illinois in Urbana. During his tenure at WU, he was a visiting professor at the Danish Polymer Centre, Technical University of Denmark; Fisica Fundamental Division, Universidad Nacional De Educacion A Distancia, Madrid, and the Department of Chemical Engineering at Stanford University.

Khomami's research activities primarily deal with engineering of materials with a desired micro-ornano-structure as well as application of nanotechnology including large scale integrated nano/micro fluidic devices to biology, chemistry and medicine. His research to date has resulted in more than 100 refereed journal publications as well as many plenary and keynote presentations at national and international meetings. In addition, he has received a number of recognitions for his research contributions including being listed in Who's is Who in American Science and Engineering as well as Who's Who in the World of Science and Engineering. He also serves on a number of journal editorial boards including Rheology and Non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics as well as many national and international steering and award committees.
