COE Official Facilitates Agreements with Tongji University

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Dr. Gregory Reed, department head of the UT Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) recently returned from a series of meetings at Tongji University in Shanghai, China. Two agreements were signed between the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the department's counterparts at Tongji.
The first agreement was signed with the the School of Civil Engineering and the second was signed with the School of Transportation Engineering. The arrangements are set up to expand the exchange of students, faculty and joint research projects. The student exchange will begin in 2006, with a UT team visiting China as the first U.S. university to compete in the Chinese student bridge competition; a student team from Tongji University coming to UT as be the first Chinese university to compete in the U.S. student bridge competition.
Dr. Baoshan Huang, an assistant professor in the CEE department, has already been involved in activities with Tongji University and Professor Zugang Yao will be coming to UT from Tongji in 2006.
While visiting Tongji, Dr. Reed gave two lectures on "Benchmarking for Academic Success" and "Modeling Health Risk Associated with Mobile Source Air Toxics."
