Several radiological assessments with uncertainty analyses have been recently completed, and another is near completion. These studies estimate doses to individuals from various contaminants of concern through applicable pathways. Sensitivity analyses are conducted to identify important parameters and to limit the scope of the uncertainty analyses.
Title: Radiation Detection
Pulse shape discrimination (PSD) has been used in conjunction with coincidence techniques to simultaneously measure alpha particles, betas and photons. PSD is currently being evaluated to develop a detection system that will measure neutron spectra, and dose, in the presence of a photon field.
Title: Uncertainty Analysis
Uncertainty assessments are useful for determining the quality of data and results and for identifying areas where better information is useful. Two projects are in progress. One is focused on the enhancement of the limit state methodology, which will be useful for identifying parameter space associated with low probability events. Another involves the development of a methodology for performing uncertainty analyses for comprehensive radiological assessments.
