Week 3:     Atomic structure and binding energy

Week 4:     Nuclear fission and the controlled chain reaction; breeding

Week 5:     Fission reactor components and materials

Week 6:     Cross sections, flux, reaction rates

Week 7:     Effective written reports and oral presentation

Week 8:     Applications of radiation and radioisotopes in industry and medicine

Week 9:     Radiation and radioactivity

Week 10:   Interactions of radiation with matter

Week 11:   Radiation detection and dose units

Week 12:   Health effects and shielding

Week 13:   Contemporary nuclear and environmental issues; turn in written reports

Week 14:   Instructor critiques written reports

Final Exam Period (2 hours): Student oral presentations; turn in corrected written reports

Course Grading: Satisfactory/No Credit
