Learning Outcomes for NE 305 (Energy Transport)
The course provides knowledge of the physics and modeling strategies associated with mass and heat transport. This knowledge is consistent with that expected of engineers by the general public and employers. The course also provides several of the skills required for solving problems posed on state licensing exams.
The following are the 11 ABET 2000-specified learning outcomes:

Explanation of the Mapping Presented in Table 1 (NE 305)
NE 305 contributes to the various ABET –specified outcomes as shown in Table 1.
ABET Outcome 1: The ability to apply knowledge of basic sciences and engineering is addressed at three levels in the course. Firstly, the basic physics of transport are explained and developed from first principles. Engineering models for transport are also developed. Secondly, the methods and strategies for implementing the models in engineering practice are developed. Thirdly, the convention for the organization and communication of the analysis or development are exercised.
ABET Outcome 3: The design process is explored in a first order manner by restructuring simple opportunities offered in homework and in class. Engineering models are used to establish attributes of a device intended to accomplish a prescribed purpose. The method for communication of the design is also developed.
ABET Outcome 5: The method for organized engineering analysis is pervasive to the course material. This type of analysis is used to develop some of the models used in the course and all of the homework and exams involve the development and use of these skills.
ABET Outcome 7: The clear and concise representation of all pertinent information in each analysis is required for homework and exams.
ABET Outcome 11: Conventional components and instrumentation used in commercial transport systems are reviewed. This includes pumps, valves, temperature and flow measurement devices and heat exchangers.
