Selecting Your Engineering Major

Deciding which engineering discipline to pursue can be a difficult task. If you have already made your decision, that's great - Go for it! However, if you are undecided about which major is best for you, then consider the following information about Nuclear Engineering at The University of Tennessee:

  • ~100% job placement of graduates with employers such as Lockheed Martin, Duke Energy, TVA, Entergy, hospitals, and government laboratories.  Please see 2007 salary survey provided by the National Society of Professional Engineers for additional information.
  • A choice of two concentrations: our new radiological program which includes health physics and medical physics, or traditional nuclear engineering.
  • Small classes with attention to individual student needs.
  • Participation in the UT Engineering Co-op Program or assistance in obtaining summer internships including opportunities abroad.
  • No out-of-state tuition for students from eligible states; only in-state fees. States participating in the Academic Common Market are: Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia.
  • A high probability of obtaining departmental and/or external scholarships for good students. Over half of UTNE undergraduate students have scholarships.
  • A department that is ranked in the top 5 nuclear engineering programs in the country by the American Nuclear Society based on publications in the Transactions of the American Nuclear Society.
