ANS Executive Committee Meeting

The meeting was called to order. A quorum of voting members was present. The following individuals attended:

Secretary's Report:

The meeting minutes for October were approved.

Treasurer's Report:

No formal report this month, except to say that we are currently under budget for the year.

Program/Arrangements

The speaker for the January dinner meeting will be Herb Moncton, Director of Spallation Neutron Source. The planned topic for the February dinner meeting is the recent criticality accident in Japan. In March, we will try to have someone talk about the UT-Battelle plans at ORNL.

Education

The teacher's workshop that was held in November was a great success. Thanks to Bill Hill and Ken Eggers, who worked on it.

Honors and Awards

The National ANS NEED committee is giving SHADES a $2500 grant.
Awards to local members that were announced at the Winter meeting:
€4 of the 5 new Fellows are from the local chapter: Tom Row, Dan Ingersoll, Rusi Taleyarkhan, and Dwayne Frye
€Douglas Peplow won the Mark Mills Award
€Rapheal Perez won the Wigner Award in Reactor Physics
€The UT graduate students won the national design competition

There are many deadlines for other national awards coming up this Spring. Please check the ANS website for descriptions of these and nominate some worthy individuals! Contact Peggy Emmett if you need help.

Topical Meetings

Copies of the summary page from the final report on the DD&R '99 meeting were distributed. The successes and tribulations of hosting this meeting were discussed. Also discussed was the request from ANS for us to host the next DD&R topical in 2001.

Other Business

The next board meeting is scheduled for January 18. We plan to have the April board meeting near the UT campus and invite the student chapter members over for pizza and presentations on careers and how we can help them.
