Dr. Jim Walls

Dr. Jim Walls is the manager of the Stakeholder Relations department of Westinghouse Waste Isolation Division at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant In Carlsbad Now Mexico. He is responsible for establishing and maintaining effective relationships with the genera public; the media; education; organizations; the Waste -management Education and Research Consortium; and local, state, tribal and federal government agencies. He also has the responsible for conducting technology transfer and economic development activities.

Prior to this position, Dr. Walls served as a Technical Assistant to the General Manager; and as manager of Underground Operations and University Programs. He began his tenure at the WIPP in March 1988.

From 1950 to 1988, Dr. Walls worked in various positions primarily in the mining industry. During the last 16 years ho held positions such as vice- president and general manager of operations

In 1963, he received his bachelor of science degree in Mechanical Engineering from New Mexico State University. He was very valuable in the effort to formulate and put into effect the Waste Education and Research Consortium. In 1990, Dr. Walls received a Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, from New Mexico State University, for his great contributions to the mining industry and to New I Mexico State University.
