"Status of NRC Regulation of DOE Facilities"


Dr. Austin joined the Atomic Energy Commission, now the NRC, in 1972. He was appointed Deputy Chairman of the External Regulation of DOE Task Force which is chartered to determine the desirability of NRC regulation of DOE nuclear activities and to conduct a pilot program of simulated regulation of certain DOE nuclear facilities. Dr. Austin was a Senior Fellow with the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safe- guards, served as a staff member for the US Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, and was a member of NRC's Risk Assessment Review Group. In the capacities, Dr. Austin has had responsibility for a wide variety of complex and controversial issues.
