Dr. Alving Weinberg![]() One of Oak Ridge's most famous citizens will be speaking about his experiences during the exciting times of the Manhattan Project. Dr. Alvin Weinberg received his PhD in mathematical biophysics from the University of Chicago in 1939. He went to work at the Metallurgical Laboratory at the University of Chicago and then on to Oak Ridge. While in Oak Ridge, Dr. Weinberg quickly progressed from the Director of ORNL's Physics Division in 1946, to the Research Director in 1948, and finally Director of the Lab from 1955 through 1973. This program is sure to provide insights into a time all of us have heard about, but few of us have experienced. |
