Light Water Reactor Mixed Oxide Benchmark I
J. C. Gehin and R. T. Primm, III

1. Introduction

These benchmark specifications are designed to provide a simple calculational benchmark problem for a mixed-oxide lattice that is typical of that for fissile materials disposition. The model chosen was that of a pressurized water reactor (PWR) in a 1717 assembly lattice of pins all of which have the same initial composition. The assembly contains 24 control rod guide tubes, some of which may contain annular burnable poison rods at various times during the assembly irradiation. A central instrumentation channel is also present

Several calculations are to be performed at beginning of life (BOL) to provide keff, the pin power distribution, and isotopic reaction rates. BOL calculations will be performed at cold zero power (CZP), hot zero power (HZP) and hot full power (HFP) with various soluble boron concentrations. A three cycle irradiation is performed to a discharge burnup of 45 GWD/MTHM. The keff, pin power distribution, reaction rates, and isotopic concentrations are to be provided at the middle and end of each cycle.
