Opportunities for Pre-Collegiate Students

The College of Engineering partners with the College of Arts and Sciences to sponsor the UT Pre-Collegiate Research Scholars Program. Begun in 2007, this program is developing models for how high school students can participate in university research projects.

The College runs the Governors School of Engineering each summer attracting a highly select group of high school students to spend five weeks in residence studying basic engineering subjects. The social and residential programs are shared with the Tennessee Governors School for the Science, held simultaneously on campus.

Every spring, College of Engineering faculty and students serve as event organizers and judges for the Tennessee Science Olympiad, the Tennessee state championships for this national event for middle school and high school teams.

The College of Engineering co-sponsors the Tennessee Junior Science and Humanities Symposium featuring an oral and poster presentations of original research conducted by Tennessee high school students.

Each October, the College hosts approximately 600 high school students at its annual Engineers Day. The high school visitors explore and learn about the various aspects of engineering through discussions, project demonstrations and exhibits prepared by UT engineering student clubs and societies.
