Pre-Collegiate Scholars Year-End Celebration
On April 28, 2009 the Pre-Collegiate Research Scholars program held their year–end celebration and student poster session at Farragut High School. Now in its third year, this outstanding program places well-qualified high school students in research laboratories at UT (both A&S and Engineering), ORNL, and the Knoxville Zoo. The students are mentored and participate in real research projects, producing poster presentations documenting their experience.
Dr. James McIntyre, Superintendent of Knox County Schools, addressed the crowd before the session. Dr. Brad Fenwick, Vice-Chancellor of Research and Engagement and Dr. Steve Dandeneau, Associate Provost and Director of the Chancellor’s Honors Program represented UT. Dean Wayne Davis and Associate Dean Masood Parang represented the College.
A very special thank you for the efforts of the College of Engineering faculty who made this program a success by mentoring students in their laboratories this year:
Dr. Qiang He, Civil and Environmental Engineering
Dr. Bin Hu, Material Science and Engineering
Dr. Veerle Keppens, Material Science and Engineering
Dr. Husheng Li, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
Dr. Peter Liaw, Material Science and Engineering
Dr. Charles Melcher, Material Science and Engineering
