For our Students
Study Abroad
Take your opportunity to earn credits and experience new challenges in a special environment! Engineering study abroad programs allow you to stay one semester or shorter in an English speaking or foreign language based schools throughout the world. You can choose between individual trips through GE3 (Global Engineering Education Exchange) or pre-arranged trips, where you would live and travel with a small group of UT students.

Internships and undergraduate research
Undergraduate research opportunities are available in every department of the College of Engineering. Students often present their results of collaborations with engineering professors at the Exhibition of Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement (EUReCA), a poster competition held every spring on campus. Cash prizes are furnished by the College and the Office of Research.

Internships and undergraduate research opportunities are available for our students through Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Every January, the College co-sponsors at UT Day at the Lab for undergraduates, with ORNL tours and information on how to make the national laboratory part of you undergraduate experience.
Opportunities for UT undergraduates at ORNL:
- DOE Office of Science Programs
- Higher Education Research Experiences
- Nuclear Engineering Student Laboratory Synthesis Program
- ORISE Programs
- ORAU Academic Fellowships and Scholarships, Research Experiences, Sabbaticals, and Internships
Service learning opportunities for engineering students are being developed in coordination with the Howard Baker Center and the Chancellor's Honors Program. Contact Dr. Roger Parsons for more information.
The College of Engineering represents the university in the Tennessee Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (TLSAMP). The National Science Foundation funds TLSAMP, a state-wide organization, in an effort to help participating colleges and universities increase enrollment and graduation rates of underrepresented ethnic minorities in the disciplines of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The College runs the Governors School of Engineering each summer attracting a highly select group of high school students to spend five weeks in residence studying basic engineering subjects. The social and residential programs are shared with the Tennessee Governors School for the Science, held simultaneously on campus.
Every spring, College of Engineering faculty and students serve as event organizers and judges for the Tennessee Science Olympiad, the Tennessee state championships for this national event for middle school and high school teams.

The College of Engineering co-sponsors the Tennessee Junior Science and Humanities Symposium featuring an oral and poster presentations of original research conducted by Tennessee high school students.
Each October, the College hosts approximately 600 high school students at its annual Engineers Day. The high school visitors explore and learn about the various aspects of engineering through discussions, project demonstrations and exhibits prepared by UT engineering student clubs and societies.
