The University of Tennessee supports the research community through various collaborations and organizations.
UT Office of Research
The Office of Research facilitates and promotes research work on the UT-Knoxville campus. Activities include managing sponsored programs; enforcing fulfillment of regulations; overseeing distribution of research funding; working with UT Public Relations and other agencies to publicize research efforts and findings; improving the research infrastructure; facilitating start-up funds to hire faculty members; and encouraging new companies based on UT research activities.
UT Research Foundation
The University of Tennessee Research Foundation (UTRF) is a nonprofit, university-affiliated corporation working to direct and advance research and technology commercialization, to assist in the advancement and dissemination of intellectual property, to facilitate the creation of technology-related businesses and to encourage entrepreneurship as a method of enhancing the state of Tennessee's economy. The UTRF has offices in Knoxville and Memphis.
The Science Alliance
Created in 1984, the Science Alliance promotes collaboration in science and engineering between the University of Tennessee and Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and between UT and other allied research organizations, for the purpose of enhancing the competitiveness of both.
The Science Alliance provides joint leadership in promising areas of research, as well as support for science and engineering faculty at UT.
