Students Connect at WomEngineer’s Welcome Dinner

Incoming female students from all engineering majors enjoyed an opportunity to network with faculty, student organizations, staff, and other students at the third annual WomEngineers Welcome Dinner on Thursday, August 23.

Attendees heard from speakers including Misty Mayes, TCE alumnus and Board of Advisors chair; Rachel McCord, a lecturer in Engineering Fundamentals; and Emily Diehl, senior in industrial engineering.

Representatives from numerous student organizations offered the new Vols insight into the social, academic, and networking available through groups like the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE).

Abigail Cooper and Mary Daffron from SWE welcomed attendees and invited them to SWE’s cookout that weekend. Laura Ferrer and Adiany Cartagena from SHPE let new students know about the support and connections possible through the SHPE familia.

The annual dinner has grown in scope and energy in just a few short years, welcoming and encouraging women engineers toward success in their time at the college and beyond.
