Dr. John Prados Retires
After 47 Years at UT
|
Dr. John Prados, who has been a UT educator and administrator for more than
47 years, officially retired from the university on June 8.
Prados received his Ph.D. degree from UT in 1957 and shortly afterwards
joined the COE faculty. He was named Associate Dean of Engineering in 1969
and held several administrative positions, including UT's system-wide Vice-President
for Academic Affairs. He returned to teaching in 1989.
Prados has been a dedicated proponent for advances in methods of engineering
education, and was one of the leaders in establishing the COE's Engage program
in the late 1990s.
Prados is a registered professional engineer, and is a member of the American
Chemical Society, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and the
American Society of Engineering Education. He also has served as the editor
for the Journal of Engineering Education since 1995. Prados was named a
Faculty Macebearer in 1997-98.
Prados will continue to assist the ChE department in planning web-based
chemical engineering programs.
The Dr. John W. Prados Endowment Fund was recently established by the COE
to honor Dr. PradosŐ dedication to students and to the university. If you
are interested in making a gift to the endowment, or would like more information,
contact the Engineering Development Office at (865) 974-2779.
