I am pleased to introduce you to some of the changes that you are
seeing in the College of Engineering newsletter. We have redesigned
the format and changed the name from Engineering News to Tennessee
Engineer. We feel the ne w
name better reflects the breadth of our readershipall engineers
who have graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville,
no matter where they are now. The updated publication also establishes
our niche as the information newsletter from the college to external
audiences.
Last fall, our newsletter editors talked with several of you about
what you were looking for from this publication. Our research indicated
that the tabloid size of the former publication was difficult to
maneuver. You, the readers, also suggested that we include color
in the publication. We listened to those suggestions as well as
many others and made quite a few changes. For example, we have adopted
a standard paper size booklet format featuring full color on the
front and back.
While many of the former features of the publication will continue
to be a part of the updated format, we are introducing some new
elements as well. For example, this spring issue includes a "Kudos"
section that will feature several recent award winners including
Chancellor William Snyder's Tau Beta Pi award and Dr. Peter Cummings's
Alpha Chi Signa recognition. Many of you have written and expressed
interest in learning more about the achievements of our faculty,
staff, students and alumni. We hope the "Kudos" section as well
as the department news briefs will address those queries. You will
also find a new column devoted to alumni and development activities
written by Jeff Lorber, director of development for the college.
As always, you remain an important part of the success of this
college, and I look forward to hearing from you. We welcome your
comments and suggestions and hope you enjoy the new look.
